Rangers are looking for another midfielder this summer, and Steven Gerrard may yet go and frustrate former club Liverpool.
According to Goal, Rangers want to sign Liverpool talent Pedro Chirivella. It’s stated that the Reds have offered him a new five-year deal, but he could still leave.
Rangers are battling Nantes for Chirivella’s signature, after some promising displays this season. The 22-year-old has been a fringe player, but has shown quality in cup games.
It’s now time for Chirivella to move on. He’s about to turn 23, and he needs to be playing first-team football in order to really kickstart his career.
Liverpool may still fight to try and keep him, meaning Rangers face a battle – especially with Nantes in the race to sign him.
Yet Steven Gerrard could be a major selling point for Rangers. Gers boss Gerrard is a Liverpool her, and was still at the club when Chirivella first arrived.
Not only that, but when Chirivella was asked by The Redmen TV in 2014 about his idols in football, he admitted that it was ‘obviously’ Gerrard, naming him as a person he looked up to.
“Obviously Steven Gerrard,” said Chirivella. “He’s the person I have to admire, because he has been everything here at Liverpool. He’s a person I look up to,” he added.
Chirivella’s love for Gerrard may just leave Rangers feeling confident that they can tempt him into making the move to Ibrox, as playing for him will surely be appealing.
