Both players have been linked with summer moves to Rangers, who hired Steven Gerrard as the next Ibrox manager last week.

Oli McBurnie is seen during a training session prior to the International Friendly match between Scotland and Costa Rica at Orium Sports Centr on March 19, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Oli McBurnie’s latest Instagram story update has to it a distinct Rangers theme.

The Leeds-born Rangers supporter has just completed a half-season loan spell at Barnsley, for whom he scored nine goals in 17 games to become one of the summer’s most sought after signings – with the Gers among the many clubs linked.

In quotes published by the Sun newspaper on Thursday, the Swansea City striker acknowledged: “There has been a lot of clubs interested, I have only got a year left at Swansea.

“But I have said to my agent to leave all that for the minute. My phone is going off for a couple of weeks and I am going to go away somewhere.”

And bumping into former Ger Allan McGregor on his travels will do little to dampen talk of a move up to Ibrox.

McGregor, who spent the best part of a decade as Rangers’ first choice goalkeeper, is out of contract at Hull City this summer and has himself been tipped to join Steven Gerrard’s side.

Peterborough United’s Jack Marriott is the latest striker linked with a transfer to Rangers, although a deal for either he or McBurnie could involve a significant – and almost unprecedented – outlay.

Could McBurnie follow new pal McGregor to Ibrox this summer?
