Rangers have been linked with Martin Skrtel in the summer transfer window, with the Gers manager Steven Gerrard having played with the defender at Liverpool.
Skrtel is a free agent this summer, having parted company with Turkish giants Fenerbahce at the end of last season.
According to a recent report in Fotomac, Rangers were close to landing the 34-year-old Slovakian defender.
The former Zenit Saint Petersburg central defender himself said last month, as quoted in The Daily Record, that Rangers had held talks regarding signing him
Rangers, though, look set to miss out on the defender, who is reportedly on the verge of joining Atalanta.

According to Gianlucadimarzio.com, Skrtel has arrived in Italy in order to complete his medical at the Serie A outfit.
Atalanta finished third in Serie A last season and will feature in the group stage of the Champions League during the 2019-20 campaign.
Rangers, though, are well stocked in defence at the moment, and the Gers will not feel too bad about missing out on Skrtel.
