Rangers are reportedly hoping to lure Matty Willock to Ibrox.

According to reports from ESPN, Rangers are interested in taking Manchester United talent Matty Willock on a season-long loan deal this summer.

The Gers have added nine new signings to their squad this summer, as Bruno Alves, Fabio Cardoso, Ryan Jack, Carlos Pena, Graham Dorrans, Daniel Candeias, Dalcio, Eduardo Herrera and Alfredo Morelos have all arrived.

However, having been dumped out of the Europa League qualifiers in embarrassing fashion at the hands of Progres Niederkorn last week, manager Pedro Caixinha may need more reinforcements.

ESPN now claim that Rangers want to take Manchester United’s Matty Willock on loan, and manager Caixinha may well be hoping to take advantage of his relationship with Jose Mourinho to seal a deal.

Willock, 19, played 42 games for United’s development squad last season, notching five goals and three assists as he mostly featured as a central midfielder, with the club’s official website describing him as a ‘leggy midfielder’ whose ‘energy and distribution’ were key last term.

Willock could bring athleticism to the Rangers midfield, and whilst other clubs could register an interest, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Mourinho decide to allow him to head to Glasgow on loan.

Upon becoming Rangers manager, Caixinha told Sky Sports that he is friends with compatriot Mourinho, and spoke to him about taking the Rangers job, with Mourinho even giving Caixinha a letter of recommendation for a coaching course in Scotland years before arriving at Rangers.

That relationship between the two men could be a huge factor in Rangers’ pursuit of Willock, as Mourinho may well trust Caixinha to develop him and give him playing time with the Gers, making Ibrox an appealing place to send the teenager out on loan this summer.
