Rangers reportedly want to sign Scotland international John Souttar from Premiership rivals Hearts this summer.
Anyone who has watched the Scottish Premiership on a regular basis over the last year or so will tell you that there is not much between Scott McKenna and John Souttar.
While Aberdeen skipper McKenna has been held aloft as one of the rising stars of Scottish football, even captaining the national team on only his fourth appearance for his country, Souttar has been equally impressive even if his performances have gone under the radar by comparison.
But it seems that Hearts’ 22-year-old, who has been likened by some to John Stones thanks to of his ball-playing style, is finally getting the attention he deserves.
According to the Evening Times, Rangers are interested in the former Dundee United centre-half ahead of the summer transfer window. And it is reported that he could cost £2 million – a big fee for Rangers but a bargain sum in today’s market.
Particularly when you consider that his McKenna has been valued at a lot more. The Daily Record claimed last year that Derek McInnes’ Dons were demanding £10 million for their inspirational defender– a fee which makes Souttar an absolute steal by comparison.
Whether Rangers can afford to stump up £2 million remains to be seen but he is already looking like a fine investment.
