Rangers winger Glenn Middleton has told The Scottish Sun that life at Ibrox hasn’t been as enjoyable as he’d hope.

The Gers swooped to raid Norwich City for Middleton in January 2018, as Graeme Murty had worked with him in the Canaries ranks.

The winger showed early promise, playing 28 games in Steven Gerrard’s first season at the club whilst picking up five goals.

It’s been tricky since then; Middleton spent time on loan at Hibernian last season, playing just eight games before then heading to Bradford City, where his season was cut short due to the global pandemic.

Middleton is still with Rangers this season as no loan exit materialised, but he hasn’t made a first-team appearance for Gerrard’s men this season.

Middleton played for Scotland Under-21’s against Croatia on Thursday night, scoring the opening goal in a 2-2 draw to remind fans of his quality.

Now, the 20-year-old has admitted that he isn’t particularly enjoying his football right now given that he is so far away from the Rangers first team, claiming that it is ‘not easy’.

Middleton noted that he is still learning at Rangers just from being around so many good players, and hope to put it all together in the future.

“You know within yourself you have a point to prove, and that’s especially true for me at the minute. Things haven’t been as enjoyable at the moment as I’d like them to be,” said Middleton. “So every minute I get on the pitch, it’s up to me to make an impact and prove I can do well. It’s not been easy at all but it’s about doing the right things every day whether that’s at Rangers or with Scotland.”

“When I get a chance I need to show what I’m capable of then hopefully catch the eye. The squad at Rangers is a very high level and people realise it’s not easy to get into the starting 11. The competition for places is very strong but you can’t fail to learn at Rangers. You pick up so much by being in and around the changing room. That’s only going to help me in the long term and I need to put all of it together,” he added.
