Charlie McCann scored the winning penalty as Rangers B beat Celtic B in the Glasgow Cup semi-finals, after 5-4 shootout win. He posted on Instagram after the match – earning praise from Manchester United’s Anthony Elanga.
Celtic named a side that included Karamoko Dembele, Mikey Johnstone and Chris Jullien. An incredibly strong side, that shows just how good a win it was for Rangers. The two sides played out a 2-2 draw in the first 90 minutes.
Johnstone gave Celtic the lead on 12 minutes, but Ross McCausland equalised with a fine finish from the edge of the area – 1-1 at the break. Good work from Dembele saw Ben Summers make it 2-1 to Celtic.
But Rangers pegged them back again, this time Cole McKinnon netting. It went into penalties and with Lewis Budinauckas making a save, McCann scored the winning penalty. The Northern Irishman reacted on Instagram.
Elanga reacts: McCann shines for Rangers in win over Celtic
Despite the strength and first-team exposure of Celtic’s side, Rangers progressed and it is testament to the strength of the young Gers side to cope with the talent against them. Alex Lowry was superb on Tuesday.
McCann, 19, has clocked up two senior appearances for Rangers this season – both coming in the Scottish Cup and it is more than deserved. A player that came through Manchester United’s academy, playing 21 times for their 23’s.
He has a bright future ahead of him and his performance and winning penalty against Celtic is proof of that. Among much praise on social media, Manchester United gem Elanga praised him on Instagram.
