Rangers have come out fighting their corner after coming in for criticism for the handling of their managerial situation.

Mark Warburton left his role as manager last week and the Gers are now looking for a replacement.

The Light Blues came in for sharp criticism from former Celtic striker Chris Sutton, who blasted the club for a lack of planning.

He commented on Twitter: “There is no plan, director of football? Is there going to be a permanent manager? I thought that’s what businessmen were supposed to do and plan for the future.

“It’s been an absolute shambles and Rangers are handing Celtic 10 in a row on a plate.”

Yet this assertion has been rubbished in under 24 hours by Rangers’ managing director Stewart Robertson.

He told Rangers’ official website. that the club do have a clear strategy in place.

He said: “Ideally you would get your permanent manager in place from day one. It may be that due to circumstances that’s not possible until the summer, in which case we need to look at filling the role in an interim basis.

“However, it is our objective to try and get someone permanent in place from day one.”

He added, commenting on a director of football: “You put a lot of time a lot of investment and a lot of resource into developing that side of the business and you can’t have that changing every time a manager changes. The director of football gives you that continuity.”

Consider Sutton’s criticism addressed for now, although whether the outspoken pundit will be impressed by their eventual appointments remains to be seen, but that should not really be the club’s concern – the main task at hand is putting smiles back on the faces of the Ibrox faithful by getting a team capable of challenging for the title next season.
