Newly-signed Rangers defender Philippe Senderos has revealed to Herald Scotland what he expects from the game against Celtic next weekend.

Rangers will take on Old Firm rivals Celtic away from home at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership after the international break.

Senderos is likely to feature in the match, having signed for the Gers on a one-year contract as a free agent on transfer deadline day.

The former Arsenal and Aston Villa centre-back has outlined what he expects from the match between Celtic and Rangers next weekend.

“Every game is different and we know this game [Celtic versus Rangers] is more than football,” Senderos told Herald Scotland. “It is a special game and the noise will be crazy. I’m expecting a big atmosphere.

“I have watched some of them. You can see the intensity, hear the noise and you can see with every tackle and every pass what it means to everyone on the pitch and around the city.”

Celtic are in better form and have the better team, and Brendan Rodgers’s side have to be considered as favourites heading into the match.

It will come as a surprise if the Bhoys drop all three points in Glasgow, but Rangers can eke out a point at Celtic Park.

An early goal for Celtic, though, is going to make things very difficult for the Gers, who are aiming to win the Scottish Premiership title this season.

Celtic are at the top of the league table at the moment with nine points from three matches, a point clear of second-placed Rangers with a game in hand.
