Rangers striker Ryan Hardie has told fans on Twitter that an operation on his foot was successful after suffering the injury while on loan with Scottish Championship side Livingston.

The 21-year-old joined the second tier outfit back in January, and has starred for David Hopkin’s side, scoring eight goals in just 17 appearances as they fought their way into the Scottish Premiership promotion play-offs.

Steven Gerrard shakes hands with Dave King as he is unveiled as the new manager of Rangers football Club at Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

However, he was seen hobbling towards the end of Livingston’s final league game of the season prior to the play-offs, which saw his loan side lose 2-0 to Dundee United.

Livingston later confirmed on their website – following the 3-2 play-off win over Dundee United on Monday – that Hardie had been ruled out for the rest of the season with a foot injury. Hardie posted on Twitter after going under the knife.

Hardie’s long-term future at Ibrox is in serious doubt with only three weeks remaining on his current contract with the Gers, despite his impressive recent form at Livingston.

It remains to be seen if Steven Gerrard will look to offer the boyhood academy product a new deal with the Scottish Giants, after making 17 senior appearances for Rangers since his debut in March 2015 against Cowdenbeath.
