Waghorn finished his season at Ibrox as the top goalscorer in Mark Warburton’s Glasgow Rangers squad.
Rangers’ Martyn Waghorn
Martyn Waghorn has disclosed that he has been visiting a psychologist and reading a self-help book in an attempt to get even better, but joked that the Rangers staff probably think that it has had the opposite effect following the club’s pre-season tour of America, The Scottish Sun reports.
The 26-year-old enjoyed a fantastic first year at Ibrox, scoring 20 league goals to inspire the Light Blues to the Scottish Championship title and promotion back to the top flight.

And ahead of the step-up, Waghorn has explained how he has been seeking professional help and has turned to the book Mindset in the hope that it helps him take his game to the next level.
He told The Scottish Sun: “It’s all aimed to help me get better – and if there’s something that can help me get one per cent better or make me a better player, why not?
“I think Davie Weir and the gaffer might disagree it’s doing me any good the way I was going on the training pitch in the USA.
“But it’s just about little things, dealing with success, dealing with failure, how to move on from things as quickly as you can and get better.”
Rangers manager Mark Warburton with Waghorn
The former Wigan man’s main concern currently may well be whether he is able to recapture the form that made him so ruthless before he picked up an injury in the Scottish Cup clash with Kilmarnock that sidelined him for well over two months last term.
He made just two appearances following his return and failed to score in both, so may feel under some pressure to hit the ground running once the new campaign begins.

However, the disappointing end to the previous season for him personally may also help him. Like when he arrived at Ibrox, he goes into this term with something to prove as he looks to show that he can handle the demands of the highest level, while also seeing off the increased level of competition within the club’s squad.
And as he showed last year, that pressure to prove something seemed to bring the best out of him, so there is no reason why he couldn’t do it again, especially now he is working just as hard off the pitch to improve as he is on it.
