Joe Garner has told the Evening Times that he is under no illusions about the fact that he may have to be patient and wait for a chance to stake a claim for a starting spot in Rangers’ line-up.
The former Preston striker became the man that Mark Warburton brought in to bolster his attacking ranks as the club’s return to the Scottish Premiership really kicks into life.

However, the 28-year-old has joined a squad that already boasted plenty of goals with Martyn Waghorn proving to be one of the most ruthless forwards in the country last term, while Kenny Miller continues to prove that he has something to offer despite his advancing years.
And with Michael O’Halloran and Joe Dodoo among the other options that Warburton is able to call upon, Garner – who made his debut with a substitute appearance in the Gers’ recent clash with Kilmarnock – has conceded that he needs to prove himself before he can expect a place in the starting line-up.
“I am fit and ready,” he told the Evening Times. “I know I might have to bide my time to get into the side. The lads have been doing really well this season. But I have been working hard in training since coming up here and signing for Rangers.”
While Garner, by his own admission, has some work to do before he can make his way up the pecking order, he may be handed the opportunity to speed that process along in the Light Blues’ next competitive game.
Following the international break, Warburton’s men travel to face Celtic in the first Old Firm game of the new season, and if the forward is given a chance, he will know that a goal against their bitter rivals would be the perfect way to establish himself at Ibrox.
