The Colombian has responded after a difficult afternoon against Dundee United
Alfredo Morelos has sounded a note of defiance after a difficult afternoon at Tannadice.
Rangers continued their winning ways with a hard-fought 2-1 win against Dundee United thanks to goals from James Tavernier and Connor Goldson, but Morelos was the centre of attention thanks to an apparent elbow and series of misses.
The striker was shown a yellow card by referee Steven McLean after appearing to catch United defender Mark Connolly with an elbow, but a number of pundits felt the offence was worthy of a red.
Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd described Morelos as “very, very lucky” to have stayed on the pitch, but luck was in short supply for the Colombian throughout the remainder of the game as he spurned a hatful of chances to score.
It leaves the formerly prolific 24-year-old with a record of just three goals in 12 Premiership games this season. Speaking on Sky Sports after the match, manager Steven Gerrard said: “Listen, he’s working hard. His application’s good, he’s getting chances.
“Maybe his confidence is affected slightly because normally that world class pass from Kemar Roofe, he’d normally take that on first time, but if he keeps working hard, stays focused and keeps working hard for the team I’m sure his form will turn.“
That message was echoed by Morelos in an Instagram post on Sunday night, which read: “BE STRONG BECAUSE THINGS WILL GET BETTER.
“MAYBE THERE IS A STORM NOW, BUT THE RAIN DOESN’T LAST FOREVER.”
Morelos could be handed an opportunity to regain his scoring touch on Wednesday when Rangers face St Mirren in the Betfred Cup at the Simple Digital Arena.
