Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has again played down talk of leaving Ibrox.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told the Daily Record that reports of Newcastle United making an approach to lure him away from Ibrox are ‘fake news’.
The Gers took a major gamble when appointing Gerrard in May 2018, as they went from the chaotic Pedro Caixinha reign, to an up-and-down stint under Graeme Murty, and then handing the job to a rookie in Gerrard.
Their decision has been a good one so far though. Gerrard guided Rangers into the Europa League group stage, beat Celtic twice and lost just six league games.
Gerrard is now gearing up for a second season in charge at Ibrox, and he will be hoping to chip away at the gap to Celtic, providing he is still Rangers manager next season.
Gerrard has been strongly linked with the Newcastle United job, as Rafael Benitez – ironically, Gerrard’s manager back in their Liverpool days – has now left the club after his contract expired.
The Mirror reported on Sunday night that Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has made an approach to Gerrard, but the Rangers boss allegedly made it clear that he wasn’t leaving Ibrox.

Ahead of tonight’s Europa League qualifier against St Joseph’s, Gerrard has tackled the subject, but offered a brief, seven-word reaction; “Fake news. Not that I’m aware of,” said the 39-year-old.
Either way, it’s great news for Rangers. Gerrard is either not interested in Newcastle, or they simply haven’t been in touch at all, so the chances of him leaving Ibrox in the near future appears slim.
