Steven Gerrard has revealed to The Scottish Sun that he believes Alfredo Morelos has ‘evolved’ since he took the reins at Rangers in 2018.

Morelos is on course to have a phenomenal season in the goalscoring stakes.

The Colombian, who signed for Rangers under Pedro Caixinha for £1 million in 2017 [The Times], already has 14 goals across all competitions and we’re only midway through October.

The 23-year-old hit the 30-goal barrier in what Gerrard’s first season – a 12-goal increase on his first year under Caixinha and later Graeme Murty.

And Gerrard claims that the former HJK Helsinki marksman is currently playing at whole new level, stressing that he’s much more of a team player now.

He told The Scottish Sun: “Alfredo has evolved under us and with this group of players. He’s listening and taking tactical information on board more.

“At times when we first came in we saw a player who played for himself. He’s been much more thoughtful about the team and his responsibilities, being more accountable. We’ve seen a maturity on and off the pitch in the last four or five months and that has been reflected in his performances.”

His growing maturity can be measured by the fact that he hasn’t been sent off this season, which doesn’t sound like much of an achievement, but it sort of is by virtue of the fact that the Rangers star picked up five red cards last time around.

But so far, Gerrard has him calm and composed on the pitch in both senses and long may it continue.
