Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has held positive talks with club Sporting Director Ross Wilson ahead of the January transfer window, The Scottish Sun report.

Wilson succeeded Mark Allen as the Ibrox recruitment guru earlier this season.

Although his primary task will be putting in place a long-term strategy that can bring success to the club, there is a looming window on the horizon.

Gerrard has stressed the importance of improving things as soon as possible but is getting good early signals that the former Southampton staff member is the right man for the job.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he explained: “Ross and I had some interesting meetings. I’d never met him previously so it will take time, but I’ve been impressed by what I’ve seen so far.

“The important thing is that we all want the same for this club as soon as possible. That’s the first good, strong vibe that I get off Ross, that he’s hungry to improve things and help us grow.”

A busy month?

The Rangers manager also stressed that the January market is a tough one to improve his squad, so there might not be too much blockbuster action on the transfer front.

That’s especially true if they manage to keep the core of their in-form squad together. Keeping Alfredo Morelos could be seen as the big priority.

Nonetheless, it bodes well for Rangers that Gerrard and Wilson are finding common ground in how they want to approach things moving forward.

From the Ibrox boss’ comments, it sounds like Wilson has some good ideas to help Rangers achieve their ambitions.
