Rangers have allowed Steven Gerrard to hold talks with Aston Villa, meaning a deal is now seemingly imminent.

That’s according to a report from The Telegraph this evening, with Villa closing in on making Gerrard their new manager.

The report claims that official confirmation of Gerrard’s move will be given in the next 48 hours after Rangers allowed talks to take place.

Villa sacked Dean Smith on Sunday after five defeats in a row, meaning  Gerrard will have to turn the club around quickly.

After three-and-a-half years in Scotland and one league title to his name, Gerrard is now seemingly heading back to England.

It won’t have been easy for Rangers to let Gerrard go, but it seems the 41-year-old fancies taking the reins at Villa Park.

Will Gerrard take his Rangers staff to Villa?

It certainly looks that way.

The report claims Villa are paying £3million to secure Gerrard as well as four other Rangers men.

Assistants Gary McAllister and Michael Beale will leave Rangers for Villa.

The same goes for Tom Culshaw and Jordan Milsom, who hold key roles on Gerrard’s coaching staff at Rangers.

That will leave Rangers absolutely decimated and needing to quickly find a new manager of their own.

Many thought that Liverpool would be the only club Gerrard would leave Rangers for, but it seems that Villa have now done enough to convince him to head to the West Midlands.
