Lewis Ferguson has completed a move from Aberdeen to Serie A side Bologna this summer – prompting a handful of Rangers stars to react, amid reports in 2021 that Steven Gerrard wanted the midfielder at Ibrox.

Ferguson, 22, joins Bologna after another wonderful season at Pittodrie. Clocking up 44 appearances in midfield, the Scotland international found the back of the net 16 times. He leaves after 168 games for the Dons.

The four-time Scotland star, son of ex-Rangers man Derek and nephew of Ibrox legend Barry, has often been linked with Rangers. Most recently, Steven Gerrard was said to be considering a move in the summer of 2021.

But following the likes of Liam Henderson and Aaron Hickey, Ferguson has moved to Italy for the next chapter of his career. He joins Bologna, who finished in 13th last term in Serie A. Ferguson reacted to his move on Instagram.

Rangers stars react: Ferguson has completed Bologna move

Ferguson has left Aberdeen for a fee of £3million, as per Football Scotland. A fee that is decent for Aberdeen but one that is also affordable for either Old Firm club. Should they be regretting Ferguson’s move to Italy?

Rangers might. They could do with another midfielder – especially after the loss of Joe Aribo. Steven Davis is staying, but his game time and quality is only going to reduce. John Lundstram, Ryan Jack and Glen Kamara remain.

But goals from midfield is something Rangers lack. Celtic, on the other hand, have plenty of that – Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley and more. Either way, a handful of Rangers players have responded, including Wright.
