Rangers returned to Ibrox for the first time this season to record a comfortable victory against Annan Athletic in the Scottish League Cup on Tuesday.
A goal apiece from Barrie McKay and Martyn Waghorn sealed a 2-0 success for Mark Warburton’s side, on a night when six summer recruits made their home debuts in front of 31,500 supporters.
Last season’s top scorer Waghorn was again on target against Annan
Despite being some way off full capacity, the Ibrox crowd was one of the biggest of some players’ careers. And for three Light Blues new boys, the old girl certainly delivered.
“Can’t wait to hear it when it’s full,” tweeted Joey Barton, who came on for the final half an hour.
And Josh Windass, who made way for Barton, posted: “Loved my first game at Ibrox.”
Another, Lee Hodson, wrote: “Delighted to have made my debut tonight at Ibrox..good win and great support”.
The result followed Saturday’s win against Motherwell at Fir Park – also by two goals to nil – and leaves Rangers top of Group F on goal difference.
Warburton’s side travel to East Stirling for fixture number three on Friday, before Monday’s home encounter with second-placed Stranraer.
The Light Blues reached the third round of the competition last season, but lost 3-1 against St. Johnstone at Ibrox.
Windass played in front of far smaller crowds at Accrington last season
