Rangers defender Niko Katic was left on the sidelines this season as a serious knee injury ended his campaign before it had even begun – but the Croatian defender is now putting in extra hours at the training ground to make sure he is fit and raring to go when Steven Gerrard’s side return for pre-season training later this summer.

As his team-mates head for a well-earned break, Katic shared a clip on his Instagram of him doing ball work with some of the coaching staff at the club as he continues his recovery.

While the defender may have found himself pushed down the pecking order at the club after a year on the sidelines, he’s clearly willing to put the work in to force his way into Steven Gerrard’s plans.

Having Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, Leon Balogun, Jack Simpson and George Edmundson as well as Katic all at the club is unlikely though so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Croatian heads out on loan for regular minutes.

Katic is a big favourite with Rangers fans though and although he’s clearly still got some rough edges, there’s something Gers fans love about the former Slaven Belupo star.

During his time away, Katic has spent plenty of time in the gym with the defender looking far bigger than he did before his injury.

Since arriving at Ibrox, Katic has made 59 appearances and scored six times for the Light Blues, returning to Scotland just in time for the Gers’ title party last weekend.
