Bruno Alves is yet to have the desired impact at Ibrox since signing for Rangers.

GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - OCTOBER 22:Bruno Alves of Rangers tackles All Campbell of Motherwell during the Betfred Cup Semi Final at Hampden Park on October 22, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Bruno Alves has not yet had the desired effect at Rangers, although expectations of the 36-year-old were always a little unfair.

The veteran centre-back has predictably battled fitness issues and has played in just eight of 15 league games for Rangers.

His last league game came back on October 25, and fans are anxiously awaiting his return as the team’s results slide.

One player who he has made a big impact on is teammate Fabio Cardoso, who has partnered his countryman at centre-back.

Cardoso is 13 years younger than Alves, who celebrated his birthday yesterday.

He sent a message to his teammate, describing it as a ‘privilege’ to get to play alongside a player who has been capped 94 times by his country.

Happy birthday bro It’s a privilege to learn from you

Rangers desperately need Alves back for the midweek fixture against Aberdeen.

Aberdeen are in second place and have a six point advantage over Rangers heading into the fixture, which the Glasgow side cannot afford to lose.
