Rangers midfielder misses key European tie leading to elimination. Celtic star has shown he can bounce back.

Ovie Ejaria missed Rangers decisive Europa League tie with Rapid Vienna this week, with manager Steven Gerrard stating he was not in the right state of mind to play.

Ejaria’s recent performances have been on the slide and Gerrard told BBC Sport that Ejaria is ‘unsettled’ at the club.

His timing could not have been worse, with Rangers losing in Austria and suffering Europa League elimination.

It is not unlike Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata’s absence from the Champions League qualifiers earlier this season.

The defender claimed to be injured, which manager Brendan Rodgers disputed, against the backdrop of transfer interest in the defender.

Celtic fans were not impressed with Boyata, and unveiled a banner slamming him when he made his return.

Boyata won them over, instantly, by scoring the winner and keeping a clean sheet on his comeback game.

Ejaria must take inspiration from this. He will be getting criticism from Rangers fans right now for the awful timing of his situation.

If he decides he wants to continue at Ibrox, then he can take hope that strong performances can get him back on track and get fans back onside.
