It brings to an end a Europa League run which ran for six months, from qualifying rounds taking place while many clubs around the continent had not even begun pre-season.
Rangers have shown considerable progress from last year, and already, eyes are turning to next season.
Defender Gareth McAuley told Rangers’ official website: “They are disappointed, they are also proud though and they are talking about next year already which is a good thing.
“They have had a taste of it now and it is the first time a lot of the players have had a taste of European football and they have enjoyed it.”
Rangers’ fate feels disappointing as they were in such a strong position in the group after two games, and only gained two points from their last four.
Scott Arfield said that the feeling in the dressing room was downcast after the game.
He told the club website: “Gutted is the best way to describe the way I’m feeling and how everyone in there is feeling, but there has to be a realisation within that how far we have come as a club and how far we have come as a set of men and a team to take it as far as we have done.”
It’s great for Rangers to look ahead to next season’s Europa League, but there is so much domestically to play for, that the players have plenty to be excited about in the rest of 2018/19.
