It is not official yet, but Sunderland are set to go down to the Championship at the end of the season. The Black Cats are at the foot of the standings with 20 points from 31 matches, and things are looking bleak.

Relegation from the Premier League could mean the top players in the current Sunderland squad leaving in the summer transfer window. Jermain Defoe has been the best player for the Black Cats this season, and the 14-goal striker would not be willing to play in the Championship at the ripe old age of 34. Kenny Miller could.

Miller is 37 years old now and is playing for Rangers in the Scottish Premiership. The Scotsman has been playing well for the Gers this season, but his current contract with the Glasgow giants runs out at the end of the season and no new deal is in place.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha recently suggested to The Daily Record that it is not guaranteed that the striker will offered a new contract, and Sunderland should make a move.

Miller may not be good enough to play in the Premier League, but the former Celtic striker could do a decent job in the Championship.

If manager David Moyes plays to his strength, then Miller could be a valuable asset for Sunderland. Moreover, the former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker would arrive the Stadium of Light on a free transfer.
