Jamie Murphy of Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers has painted a sad picture of what it’s been like on the sidelines.
Injured Rangers winger Jamie Murphy has admitted to the club’s channel that he ‘feels like a little boy’ when he watches his team-mates train through a window at Auchenhowie.
The Scotland international hasn’t kicked a ball for Rangers since August after being ruled out for the season with a knee ligament injury.
Murphy, a £1.4 million [The Record] permanent signing last summer after dazzling for the Gers on loan during the second half of the 2017-18 campaign, is optimistic of returning before the season finishes.
But the 29-year-old admits that it has been ‘really hard’ watching on from the sidelines at times.
He told Rangers TV: “I have got a date in my head. The surgeons told me a date and he pretty much said the season, but we will see how it goes. I always find myself to be a quick healer so we will see how the next couple of months go.
“It has been really hard, I have never had this amount of time out of football before.
“Sometimes I just find myself standing at the window watching training like a little boy. But it is motivation to try and get back and get back in the team to help in any way that I can.”
Murphy is an exceptional winger, as he proved last season, but getting his spot in the first XI back won’t be easy.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has Glenn Middleton, Eros Grezda and Liverpool loanee Ryan Kent at his disposal in regards to left-wing options.
Competition is fierce, but Murphy should focus on getting fit again and cross that bridge when it comes.
