The right-back has been a key part of Mark Warburton’s Glasgow Rangers side, but was still linked with an Ibrox exit this summer.

Rangers defender James Tavernier has insisted to The Scottish Sun that there was nothing in the rumours linking him with a move to Trabzonspor this summer.

The Scottish Sun reports that the Turkish side were very keen on bringing the 24-year-old in during this window, but Tavernier – who recently agreed a contract extension at Ibrox (via The Scottish Sun) – has claimed that nothing came of their interest.

“I first heard about the Trabzonspor link from my mum. She’d seen it, then I obviously looked into it,” he told The Scottish Sun.

“The club haven’t heard anything and I haven’t heard anything but I keep getting messages on Twitter from their fans telling me to go there.

“I’m a Rangers man and there’s nothing to it at all.”

While the contract extension would have alleviated most fans’ concerns, the fact that Tavernier has now spoken out about the speculation and insisted that he wants to stay with the Gers will provide the club with a big boost ahead of the closure of the transfer window.

Mark Warburton appears to have enjoyed an excellent summer, bringing in several high-profile and exciting names ahead of their return to the Scottish Premiership.

But after a mixed start in the league, the month would have undoubtedly ended on a sour note for the Light Blues had it seen the former Newcastle man leave.

Tavernier has often been exceptional since arriving at Rangers last summer, scoring 17 goals in all competitions, which is an incredible return for a defender.

And if he had any doubt, Warburton was reminded of his worth to the side during their game with Kilmarnock on Friday as it was the full-back who bagged the equaliser with a stunning free-kick.
