Rangers invested in Ianis Hagi over the summer, but they have yet to really see him truly hit top form consistently.
The Romanian playmaker joined Rangers on loan from Genk in January, and he quickly became a fan favourite at Ibrox with three goals and two assists in 13 outings.
Rangers signed Hagi permanently, and whilst he has chipped in with five assists in the Scottish Premiership this term, some believe he is capable of so much more.
On Sunday, the 21-year-old started for Romania against Norway, and was on the receiving end of a 4-0 drubbing as Erling Haaland ran riot with a hat-trick.
Romania struggled throughout, and Hagi didn’t exactly impress – but then received some criticism for his post-match comments.
New boss Mirel Radoi was taking charge of just his fourth match as Romania manager, and Hagi wasn’t too complimentary of the tactics deployed agains Norway.
As quoted by Digisport – who branded Hagi’s comments ‘strange’ – the Rangers ace suggested that Romania couldn’t do anything on the ball because they spent so much time chasing it, believing Radoi should be asked why Romania couldn’t create anything going forward.
Hagi added that he was angry and didn’t want to say anything stupid, but felt Romania just couldn’t implement Radoi’s ideas on the pitch – and Rangers will hope that this international break doesn’t hamper Hagi’s confidence ahead of the vital clash with Celtic.
“You should ask the selector about the fact that we did not have opportunities! You run 4-5 minutes after the ball and when you have the ball at your feet you can’t do anything, you lose your energy, your breath, you can only take out a foul,” said Hagi.
“We are at the beginning of the road with the new coach and we could not apply on the field what is transmitted to us from the sidelines. The anger is great, I do not want to say anything stupid,” he added.
