Rangers defender Jack Simpson is excited to finally get the chance to play in front of the Gers support this season after his first six months in Scotland were played behind closed doors as he admitted he never quite grasped how “historic” the Gers are.

Simpson moved to Ibrox in January after initially agreeing on a pre-contract move from Bournemouth, making seven appearances for the Light Blues in the final months of last season.
With fans set to return to grounds as Covid restrictions are eased across the country, Simpson is looking forward to finally getting his chance to meet the fans and let them see what he is capable of in person.
“I knew before I came, but once you actually get here, you see how big the club is and how historic it is,” Simpson told Rangers TV.
“I think that has been the real thing that has hit me – I haven’t met the fans yet and I am just so excited as for me, that will be the first time once we get them back in the door.
“Hopefully with this being the 150th anniversary of the club, it will be an enjoyable year for everyone.”
Defender faces a massive 12 months at Rangers as reinforcements continue
Simpson’s arrival at Ibrox in January added yet another central defender to the Gers’ ranks, leaving Steven Gerrard with no fewer than six first-team centre-backs.

How the Gers boss is going to keep them all happy is anyone’s guess but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a couple of them head out on loan – assuming nobody is sold.
After losing his squad number to John Lundstram, Simpson is already ostensibly behind the curve a little bit but at only 24 he still has plenty of time ahead of him.
