Wilson appears to be first-choice centre-back at Ibrox under Rangers boss Mark Warburton.

Rangers defender Danny Wilson has been talking to the official Rangers website about the club’s defending so far this season.

The Ibrox star has seemingly won his way in the starting XI at Rangers for the time being – with Philippe Senderos and Rob Kiernan dropping out for the time being to Wilson and summer signing Clint Hill.

Mark Warburton’s side have been struggling with their defending this term and certainly did so at times last term.

However, they have managed to keep two clean sheets in a row and Wilson is clearly proud of that fact:

“Maybe it is that wee bit of luck that you get and you keep the clean sheet and it looks a wee bit better on your part but I don’t think there was too much wrong in the past.

“I think we are just trying to remain consistent, we have had two clean sheets in a row and we’ll be hoping if we are selected on Sunday we can get another one and keep building on it.”

He did however admit that at times Rangers have struggled in defence this term, but feels there is always more scrutiny on defensive mistakes than those made in attack:

“People want to point the fingers at defenders and it is a difficult job being a defender, usually if you make a mistake it can lead to a goal, whereas in the forward areas you always have that chance of putting the ball in the net another time.

“Criticism is part and parcel of the job and it is a job we all love doing so I don’t really worry about anything that comes my way due to that.”

Wilson and Hill have certainly formed the most convincing looking pairing so far for Rangers this season. Getting the defending right at Ibrox is clearly going to be key if they are to start to climb back up the Scottish Premiership table.

Wilson will be hoping to go for a third clean sheet in a row when they take on rivals Aberdeen this weekend.
