Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers lost to Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic on Sunday, with Connor Goldson playing for the Gers.

Goldson, who joined Rangers from Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer transfer window for a transfer fee reported by The Glasgow Evening Times to be worth £3 million, made the comments after the Gers’ 1-0 defeat to Celtic away from home at Celtic Park in the Old Firm derby at the weekend.
Although Celtic won the Scottish Premiership game on Sunday afternoon just 1-0, the Hoops hit the frame of the Rangers goal four times, and goalkeeper Allan McGregor also had to make some wonderful saves for the Ibrox club.
Rangers central defender Goldson does not think that there is a big gap between the Gers and Celtic.
Goldson told The Scottish Sun: “I don’t think the gap’s big. Obviously this is the first time I have played in a derby.
“But I have just said that when I came here in pre-season I heard a lot of people say how much better they were, how they beat Rangers 5-0 last season.”
The central defender added: “I am not going to say they are not a good team. They are a good team and we respect them.
“But I think we are getting closer and the players that the manager has brought in have been together for two, three months. We WILL get closer.”
Ominous for Celtic?
Celtic were the better team on Sunday, but there were moments when Rangers did have the Hoops under pressure in the Old Firm derby.
While the Bhoys are clearly the best team in Scotland, Rangers have shown under manager Gerrard that they can compete with the fierce rivals.
What the Gers need to do now is put together a run of positive results and maintain their pressure on Celtic.
