Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield has told The Scottish Sun that he is confident they can beat Celtic later in the season.

The Gers lost the recent Old Firm derby 1-0 and have fallen four points behind their rivals.

It was Arfield’s first game against Celtic and he admits Rangers are still learning under new boss Steven Gerrard.

He too is adjusting to Scottish football along with several other new signings at Ibrox.

He said: “If we want to be winners then we need to start beating them.

“But I think we have the capabilities in the dressing room to do that.”

The challenge for Rangers is as much mental as it is technical, with Arfield and his teammates going into the game as underdogs. Even now a week after the game, he is discussing it.

The same will be the case when the two sides play in late December, unless Rangers can dramatically turn around their league form.

Arfield himself had a poor game away to Celtic and he must focus on improving individually as well as it being a collective effort.
