Glasgow Rangers ace Carlos Pena showed his worth by scoring an impressive goal at Ibrox this week.

Pena netted in the 3-0 win over Aberdeen upon his return to the starting line-up.

Ever since former manager Pedro Caixinha was fired, Pena has had a bit of an unfair deal.

Rangers manger Ally McCoist during the Scottish Championship League Match between Rangers and Dumbarton, at Ibrox Stadium on August 23, 2014 Glasgow, Scotland.

Club legend Ally McCoist told The Scottish Sun last week that he doubted Pena even wanted to be at Rangers any longer.

It was lazy analysis, a jab at a player who is an easy target simply because he was signed by Pedro Caixinha.

Pena is a Mexican international, still adjusting to the Scottish weather, culture and playing style, so there are going to be hiccups and leeway must been allowed, but the quality is there for all to see.

He has been unfairly tainted by Caixinha’s failings as a manager, and the fact a number of the other additions have not worked out.

Eduardo Herrera has been a flop, Dalcio has been anonymous, and Daniel Candeias has been inconsistent.

Even the excellent Alfredo Morelos has lost form badly recently, even though he is very evidently an excellent player Rangers are lucky to have.

Pena has four goals in eight games, but this looks even better when broken down. He is averaging a goal in every 91 minutes of action in the Scottish Premiership.

To write him off simply because he was a Caixinha signing is misguided, and he must be judged on his own merits.
