Rangers star Bruno Alves says no plan to retire

Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers brought Bruno Alves to Ibrox in the summer of 2017.

Rangers defender Bruno Alves has been quoted as saying by The Daily Record that he does not plan to retire this summer.

Alves, who joined Rangers in the summer of 2017 after leaving Cagliari, has also stated that he is not planning to retire from international duty with Portugal anytime soon.

The Daily Record quotes Alves as saying: “All I am thinking about is helping my national team.

“I have no plans to finish my career either at club or at country level. I will never retire from Portugal. I will always make myself available for selection.”

Future at Rangers?

Alves is 36 years of age and is clearly past his prime, and his desire to carry on playing is admirable indeed.

The Portugal international centre-back will be aiming to achieve success at the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia this summer.

The former Zenit Saint Petersburg star’s aforementioned comments suggest that he will carry on playing next season, but will he still be at Rangers?

According to a report in The Scotsman last week, Alves is one of a number of players expected to leave Rangers this summer.

Although the former FC Porto star did not have a great season on a personal level, his experience will come in hand for Rangers manager Steven Gerrard during the 2018-19 campaign.
