Barrie McKay has told the Sunday Post that he wants to commit his future to Rangers once the club’s next manager arrives at Ibrox after contract talks stalled following Mark Warburton’s departure.
According to the Sunday Post, the 22-year-old began talks with the Gers in February following speculation linking him with a £6 million move to RB Leipzig during the previous transfer window, but those discussions stalled once Warburton left the club.
But while the uncertainty continues regarding Warburton’s successor, McKay has issued an update on his future that will be music to the ears of most Rangers fans.
“My agent met them and they were pretty keen to get it done, then obviously everything happened with the gaffer and it went quiet,” he told the Sunday Post.
“I am just waiting to hear again basically.

“I definitely want to be part of things under the new regime.
“Rangers is a massive club. I am happy to be part of it for however long they feel necessary.”
Though the academy graduate has not always made that great an impact on games, especially since the club’s promotion to the Scottish Premiership, there is no question that him putting pen to paper on a new contract will provide the squad with a major boost.

On his day, McKay can become almost impossible for opponents to cope with, and he is surely one of the players within the current squad who could be part of a side that closes the gap to Celtic at the top of the table.
And keeping him at Ibrox will arguably boost the next manager’s chances of enjoying a successful spell with the club considerably.
