Rangers believe Mark Warburton will stay at Ibrox, despite reports that his contract talks have stalled.
As quoted by The Scottish Sun, a Rangers spokesman has moved to ease fears that manager Mark Warburton could leave the club after contract talks allegedly collapsed.
Warburton, 53, took over as Rangers manager last summer having left Brentford, and enjoyed a superb first season in the Ibrox dugout.
The former city trader won both the Scottish Championship and the Petrofac Training Cup in his first season at Rangers, and is now expected to challenge Celtic in the Premiership next season and beyond.
However, the threat of Warburton being pinched away by an English club continues to hang over Rangers – even more so since speculation surfaced on Sunday surrounding Warburton’s future
The Express reported that, whilst Rangers have been in contract talks with Warburton to extend the three-year deal he signed last summer, negotiations broke down at the last minute.
It was also claimed that Warburton will stay at Rangers despite the breakdown in talks, and a Rangers spokesman has moved to calm some fears in the blue half of Glasgow.
As quoted by The Scottish Sun, a Rangers spokesman claimed that Warburton is determined to see through his ‘exciting’ project at Ibrox, and has been telling the club’s board just how thankful he is for being given the opportunity to manage the club.
“We successfully achieved our target for the first year of our three-year contract,” said the spokesman. “Mark is committed to seeing this exciting project to the end and continues to express his thanks to the board for the opportunity and support the club has given him,” he added.
