Interest in Rangers duo Alfredo Morelos and James Tavernier is reportedly growing with a number of Premier League clubs keen on their services.
Rangers are now less than two weeks away from starting the 2019/20 Scottish Premiership campaign against Kilmarnock and supporters are hoping it’ll end in Steven Gerrard holding the SPFL trophy aloft.
But Rangers chances of becoming Scottish Premiership champions will decrease by a long way if they part ways with striker Alfredo Morelos and defender James Tavernier now.
The Record recently claimed that German side Eintracht Frankfurt have joined the race for Morelos’ signature, as the Gers are braced for a big-money bid.
Added with that, the Daily Mail have claimed that right-back Tavernier is also attracting interest from England, with Steve Bruce keen on the player.
At the start of this month, Gerrard fired warning shots that he doesn’t want to sell a player like Morelos and any potential business won’t ‘happen late’, as quoted by BBC Sport.
Well, Rangers are in that situation now. At the start of the summer, if bids came in for either of their star players, and they were sold, then it would have been understandable. Plus, it would have provided Gerrard with time to try and replace those players.
He doesn’t have that time now and selling either or even both of them now would result in Rangers’ season starting in a disastrous manner.
Gerrard’s own comments should be proof that the Gers must now bat away any interest in their key players because if a big offer does come in from a Premier League club then the Glasgow club will be tested.
Rangers supporters will want to see Gerrard ending their Old Firm rivals nine-in-a-row ambitions next season, that’ll take a serious hit if players are sold now.
