Scottish Premiership rivals Celtic and Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers would at least be on a par regarding midfield if Scott Arfield arrives.
According to Sky Sports, Rangers are close to agreeing a pre-contract deal for Scott Arfield.
The Burnley midfielder is out of contract at Turf Moor this summer and it looks increasingly probable that he will be a Rangers player.
If that move materialises then it might give the Gers a better midfield than Celtic next season.
Graham Dorrans, Greg Docherty and Josh Windass are already at Ibrox but, the addition of another Premier League-hardened figure such as Arfield would give Celtic’s quartet of Scott Brown, Stuart Armstrong, Olivier Ntcham and Tom Rogic a run for their money – certainly in the future.
Rogic might yet leave Celtic this summer and although Brown won three awards at the Hoops’ End of Season dinner this past weekend, he turns 33 in June and his influence will surely begin to wane eventually.
Celtic are still head and shoulders above the Gers in a number of other positions, but midfield might not be one of them if Arfield arrives at Ibrox.
