Glasgow Rangers gave up on Umar Sadiq early, but it was an easy decision.

Sadiq Umar of Rangers FC prior the UEFA Europa League Group G match between Villarreal CF and Rangers FC at La Ceramica Stadium on September 20, 2018 in Vila-real, Spain.

Rangers have called time on Umar Sadiq’s loan spell at Ibrox and sent him packing back to Roma.

The Nigerian striker failed to win over Steven Gerrard and did not manage a single league start in his Rangers spell.

Fortunately for Rangers it was a very easy decision, with Sadiq looking off the pace from day one.

The decision shows that sometimes, it is better for a signing to be disastrous than mediocre.

Sadiq was so far out of Steven Gerrard’s plans that there was no way back.

Now Rangers have another shot at bringing in a striker, having wiped the slate clean.

Steven Gerrard of BT Sport looks on during the Emirates FA Cup Final between Arsenal and Chelsea at Wembley Stadium on May 27, 2017 in London, England.

This could lead to them signing Dominic Solanke, or another forward, and ending the season to a superior team than the one they entered the campaign with.

If Sadiq had been mediocre, say he managed to start nine games and scored three goals, Rangers would likely have been happy enough to keep him on.

But it wouldn’t necessarily have helped them in their chase for silverware.

This way, Rangers get a second shot, and its thanks to Sadiq being so bad.
