Glasgow Rangers have pulled off another January signing, having brought Greg Docherty to Ibrox.

Greg Docherty has told Rangers’ official website that his style of play is inspired by Barry Ferguson and Steven Davis, and suggested that he would love to emulate them after becoming Rangers’ latest signing.

The 21-year-old has completed his move to Ibrox, with the club confirming on their official website that he has joined from Hamilton Academical after signing a four and a half year deal with the Gers.

For Rangers fan Docherty, it is clearly a dream come true to join Graeme Murty’s side. And he outlined his love for the club by picking out the top players who have inspired the way that he wants to play the game.

“Barry Ferguson and Steven Davis. Davis more recently, but Barry Ferguson, particularly in the UEFA Cup run,” he told the club’s official website when talking about the inspirations for his style.

“Both guys have captained the club at different points and gone on to have fantastic careers. I’d like to emulate them and hopefully have a career just as good as theirs in a Rangers jersey. If I can do that, I’ll be happy.

With Ferguson winning 15 major honours during his Rangers career and Davis clinching eight before his move to Southampton, it will undoubtedly excite the fans that Docherty has set his sights on potentially emulating them during his time with Rangers.

It seems fair to say that the Gers have enjoyed a brilliant window with a number of quality additions signed on loan before Docherty’s permanent arrival.

And if some of those loans work out well and there is scope for those players to follow Docherty and sign permanent terms, then perhaps the club will go into next season with some fantastic foundations in place to get themselves somewhere near the level they were at when the likes of Ferguson and Davis were vital members of their midfield.
