Declan John has become Glasgow Rangers’ latest signing, arriving at Ibrox on a season-long loan deal.

Declan John has suggested to Rangers’ official website that he felt that his career had been stalling before he sealed his season-long loan switch to Ibrox on transfer deadline day.

John has spent his entire professional career to date on Cardiff City’s books. But despite making 20 appearances during their campaign in the Premier League, the full-back has played just 22 times in the league for the Bluebirds in the four seasons since.

And the two-time Wales international is yet to make an appearance for Neil Warnock’s men this term, and he suggested that he needs to get his career back on track, and joining the Gers for the campaign could be the perfect way to do just that.

“I went into the Premier League at the age of 18, and you don’t really expect to get the call-up for that, and our first game was against West Ham which was massive for me,” he told the club’s official website.

“Then, I managed to do well and stay in the team for more-or-less the rest of that season. There were different managers that came in, so my career I think has stalled a little at the minute, but hopefully I can kick on from here.

A general view of Ibrox Stadium is seen ahead of the EURO 2016 Qualifier match between Scotland and Georgia at Ibrox Stadium on October 11, 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland.

“And what better team to do that at than Glasgow Rangers?

“I don’t think I was playing enough games and getting the games I needed. But Rangers are such a massive club, and coming up here and hopefully doing that will hopefully be good for me.”

With John confident that moving to Rangers will provide him with the first-team football that he craves, it will be interesting to see where he features in Pedro Caixinha’s plans.

The 22-year-old is arguably most commonly considered a left-back which would mean that he is competing with captain Lee Wallace for a place in the team.

Of course, Caixinha may have other ideas in mind that see both players frequently involved – but there will undoubtedly be a sense of intrigue for the Light Blues supporters as they look to find out how prominently the club’s latest signing features in the manager’s plans.
