Rangers signing Bruno Alves praised by Massimo Rastelli for his attitude

Glasgow Rangers recently competed the signing of Bruno Alves in the summer transfer window.

Cagliari head coach Massimo Rastelli has suggested to The Sunday Post that Bruno Alves will be a success at Rangers.

Rangers recently competed the signing of Alves following the defender’s departure from Italian club Cagliari at the end of the 2016-17 season.

The 35-year-old centre-back is past his best, but in his prime the defender was one of the best players in his position in the world.

Cagliari head coach Rastelli has revealed that he did not want Alves to leave, and has outlined the kind of positive attitude that the former FC Porto and Zenit Saint Petersburg star has.

“Had it been up to me, Bruno would certainly have stayed with us until the end of his career,” Rastelli told The Sunday Post about Alves.

“He was the perfect professional in his time with us, and is someone we miss both as a player and as a man.

“He has great technique, is physically strong and has a very well-developed sense of position as a result of all his experience playing at a high level in the game.”

“Sometimes you need someone to win you the ball back through an interception or a tackle, and Bruno is that guy,” added Rastelli. “Then, once he has done so, he has the ability to pick out a teammate by making the right pass.

“But where Rangers will really benefit is that Bruno has the perfect attitude you would look for in one of your footballers.

“He is the first to come in to training, and the last one to leave. And when he is there, he always looks to help young players develop in any way he can.”

Alves is a very experienced footballer who is only going to enhance the quality of the current Rangers squad.

The 35-year-old centre-back will be important for Pedro Caixinha’s side if the Gers are able to progress to the group stage of the Europa League next season.

Rangers finished third in the Scottish Premiership last season and will be aiming to at least compete with Old Firm rivals Celtic for the league title during the 2017-18 campaign.
