Rangers added another new face to their squad on Tuesday, as they signed Sunderland goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin out of nowhere.
The Gers have already tied up permanent deals for Jermain Defoe and Ianis Hagi, whilst youngsters Charlie Lindsay and Calvin Bassey have arrived too.
On Tuesday afternoon, Rangers suddenly announced the signing of goalkeeper McLaughlin, just moments after his exit from Sunderland had been confirmed.
The 32-year-old’s contract at Sunderland was due to expire on June 30th, and he has now returned to Scotland for the biggest move of his career.
Born In Edinburgh, McLaughlin actually turned out for the likes of Harrogate Town, Bradford City and Burton Albion before heading to Hearts in 2017.
McLaughlin moved back to England with Sunderland a year later, and after two successful years on Wearside, he heading back to Scotland.
The two-cap Scotland international joins Rangers on a free transfer, and will likely serve as backup to Allan McGregor next season following the exits of Wes Foderingham and Jak Alnwick.
Sunderland fans have been taking to Twitter to react to McLaughlin joining Rangers, with many branding him ‘class’ and ‘quality’.
Some are gutted to see him leave, and are angry at the club for failing to secure a new contract for him, but understand why he has moved to Ibrox.
