Rangers added yet another new face on Tuesday afternoon, confirming the signing of goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin from Sunderland.
The Gers had already tied up permanent deals for loanees Ianis Hagi and Jermain Defoe ahead of next season, whilst youngsters Charlie Lindsay and Calvin Bassey have also joined.
Rangers then announced McLaughlin’s arrival out of absolutely nowhere on Tuesday, confirming the deal despite very little speculation surrounding a move.
The 32-year-old enjoyed two impressive years as Sunderland’s first-choice goalkeeper, having joined them from Hearts back in 2018.
The Scotland international now returns north of the border with Rangers, where he will likely play as backup to fellow Scot Allan McGregor.
With Wes Foderingham and Jak Alnwick leaving this summer, landing McLaughlin for free looks to be an ideal bargain – especially considering Sunderland’s price tag on him a year ago.

As reported by The Northern Echo, Sunderland were demanding a huge £5million fee for McLaughlin, in order to fend off interest from Millwall.
From £5million a year ago to absolutely nothing now, Rangers should be very pleased with their deal for the goalkeeper, with that price difference showing what a bargain they’ve managed to pull off.
