Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers should ask for Sunderland’s Josh Maja on loan, plus cash, in exchange for Martyn Waghorn.
The Daily Mail has reported that Sunderland are considering a move for Rangers striker Martyn Waghorn.
It remains to be seen what role Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha envisages for the 27-year-old this season, after he was left out of the first XI in Sunday’s win at Sheffield Wednesday.
The former Sunderland academy graduate managed only seven goals in 32 Premiership outings last season and Caixinha should sanction his return to Wearside, if the Black Cats are indeed interested, but the Gers manager should ask about Josh Maja on loan in return.

The 18-year-old forward has had an excellent pre-season under Simon Grayson, scoring four goals, but his absence from the matchday squad in Saturday’s 5-0 defeat by Celtic might well indicate that he won’t have a first-team role to play in the Championship this season.
At 18, Grayson could be forgiven for being reluctant to use him in Championship games this season as Sunderland plot promotion back to the Premier League.
But the versatile Maja, who can play up front, at number 10 or on the wing, is clearly a big talent and a season with Rangers in the Premiership could do him the world of good.
If he ends up spending the whole season with the Black Cats’ Under-23 side, a likely scenario, then it’s a no-brainer which is better for his development.
