Glasgow Rangers’ search for their next manager continues despite it looking like the Ibrox hot-seat was going to be filled.

For the last few days, it looked increasingly likely that Rangers would go into Saturday’s clash with Ross County having confirmed that Derek McInnes had left Aberdeen and would become Pedro Caixinha’s successor at Ibrox – but after years of pain, Rangers fans should have known that appointing a new manager was never going to go as smoothly as it should have done.
Aberdeen have now confirmed on their official website that McInnes will be staying at Pittodrie, meaning that after six weeks of looking, Rangers are now back at square one, and they have now confirmed on their own official website that Graeme Murty will stay in charge for the rest of the year at least.

The uncertainty will not do the Light Blues’ chances of finishing second in the Scottish Premiership this season absolutely no favours..
Therefore, perhaps Rangers should have considered putting even more faith in the man who has handled the situation impeccably over the last six weeks and saved themselves from further embarrassment.

Murty has not enjoyed a perfect spell in charge, but has won four of his six games and taken the club to second in the table despite being five points adrift of that position when he took over in the wake of Pedro Caixinha’s departure.
It is clear that the players want Murty to succeed – their performances in the double header with Aberdeen proved that emphatically – and the 43-year-old looks to be more than up for the challenge of leading the Gers until the end of the season rather than just until the new year.
Appointing Murty on a deal until the summer will allow Rangers to save some face after a somewhat humiliating event – and based on the job that he has done so far, it may not be out of the question to suggest that the current caretaker could lead the Gers to a finish in the top flight that leaves them looking down at McInnes’ men.
