Rangers need a striker at Ibrox with three months remaining in the January transfer window.

Mark Warburton’s former side Nottingham Forest are interested in luring Middlesbrough striker Patrick Bamford to the City Ground this month, but he would be perfect at another of Warburton’s old sides in Rangers.

Rangers have already added two new signings this month under Graeme Murty, after the 43-year-old took full-time control at Ibrox following the sacking of Pedro Caixinha until the end of the season.

it has allowed the former Reading defender to make his own decisions in the January transfer window, which has seen him lure midfielder Sean Goss to Ibrox from QPR on loan and former Brighton winger Jamie Murphy back to his home country.

His next move in the window should be to add another striker to the Gers squad, with Kenny Miller still sidelined after rupturing his hamstring during the 2-1 win over Hibernian in December.

It leaves the Gers with Alfredo Morelos, Eduardo Herrera, Josh Windass and Ryan Hardie as options up front. Nine-time Mexico international Herrera has flopped, while it could be argued that Windass is more effective in midfield.

Youngster Hardie is yet to be proven in the top flight of Scottish football, and that should convince Murty to sign another striker and raiding Warburton’s old side for a proven Championship goalscorer such as Bamford would prove a major coup.

The Northern Echo claim Forest are interested in Boro striker Bamford following Aitor Karanka’s appointment at the City Ground, after the Spaniard signed Bamford from Chelsea on a permanent basis when in charge at the Riverside.

Bamford is the type of number nine that boasts a bit of everything; speed, determination, aerial prowess but an impeccable first touch, too. With the Gers playing with two strikers of late, he would be a perfect partner to Morelos.

Starting just eight of his 21 Boro appearances this season, Bamford could be allowed to leave on loan with the Championship club boasting a whole host of strikers including Rudy Gestede, Britt Assombalonga and Ashley Fletcher.

The 24-year-old has 26 goals in 82 Championship games, 54 of which he has started, and would be the perfect signing at Ibrox if Murty can convince Boro to let him move to Glasgow.
