Rangers could reportedly wave goodbye to John Lundstram just months after luring him to Ibrox – with Middlesbrough keen. Surely, the Gers should consider a swap, by requesting Rangers fan Paddy McNair in a deal?
Lundstram, 27, left Sheffield United on a free transfer in the summer to join Rangers – after rejecting the chance to stay on at Bramall Lane. Of course, he worked under Chris Wilder, who is now Middlesbrough manager.
The Record report that Wilder is eyeing a reunion at the Riverside. Lundstram has been in and out of the side but with Scotland star Ryan Jack returning from injury, he may find his game time reduces even further.
However, with Steven Davis out of contract and potentially in his final season at Ibrox – the Gers will need to bring in a replacement. So, surely a swap deal makes sense – by requesting McNair in a swap deal?
McNair for Lundstram: A good deal for Rangers, and Middlesbrough?
McNair, 27, is a Rangers fan according to the Sun. Though he was linked with Celtic in 2019, the midfielder is a Gers supporter – and a teammate of Davis at international level, clocking up 49 Northern Ireland caps.
Joining Middlesbrough in 2018 for £5million (Sun), he has shown glimpses of quality but has struggled to remain injury free and consistent. But he is easily good enough for the Rangers midfield, should the Gers consider him.
If Rangers are to lose Lundstram, who remains an important part of the side under new manager Gio van Bronckhorst, then surely the Gers have to consider including McNair – in what would likely be a straight swap.
It would see Rangers immediately replace the loss of Lundstram, who is likely to be tempted by reuniting with Wilder. Whether Boro would want to lose McNair, though, is a completely different matter.
