Rangers should target Aston Villa’s Jake Doyle-Hayes in January after Steven Gerrard admitted that Ovie Ejaria is ‘unsettled’ at the club.

HITC Sport reported a few days ago that Aston Villa are considering sending youngster Jake Doyle-Hayes out on loan, with the transfer window set to re-open next month.

The 19-year-old is comfortable on the ball, he can either sit in front of the defence or push forward and attack if the situation requires.

Whilst there are big names being touted to move to Ibrox next month, Doyle-Hayes can prove to be a canny purchase and a financially worthwhile addition because he will not be on high wages at Villa Park.

It is highly likely that Gerrard will now lose Liverpool loanee Ejaria earlier than expected after he missed his side’s Europa League defeat at Rapid Vienna on Thursday.

Speaking to the Daily Record after being knocked out of Europe, his manager admitted that the player is ‘slightly unsettled’ by life in Scotland.

If that situation does arise then the Gers should look towards Villa and add teenager Doyle-Hayes to their ranks for the rest of the season.

The Republic of Ireland U21 international has only played 57 minutes of football this term as he has struggled to push his way into what is a strong Villa midfield.

One problem area for Gerrard this season has been his inability to find consistency in the middle of the park and that is exactly what Doyle-Hayes brings to the table with his energetic and simplistic style of play.
