Eduardo Herrera has struggled at Ibrox since joining Rangers in the summer from Pumas.

Eduardo Herrera of Rangers celebrates after he scores his teams third goal during the Betfred League Cup Quarter Final at Firhill Stadium on September 19, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Splashing out on an experienced, international forward filled the hearts of Rangers fans with optimism and excitement. But Eduardo Herrera’s short spell at Ibrox has provided supporters with much the opposite.

The nine-time Mexico international is believed to have cost Rangers £1.5million from Pumas, according to the Daily Record, but the 29-year-old has just not adapted to the quick tempo and physicality of Scottish football.

Given 12 appearances in all competitions, Herrera has managed just two goals with only one of those coming in the Scottish Premiership against Ross County back in August.

Failing to score for the Gers since September 19, Herrera should be thrown on the scrapheap by Rangers’ next manager, whether that be Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes, caretaker Graeme Murty or one of the many other names linked.

Alfredo Morelos has since taken on the challenge to fire Rangers above the likes of Hibernian and Aberdeen, and the 21-year-old has impressed with eight goals in 17 games.

But if Rangers were to sell Herrera, they would need to replace him with a cheap alternative that knows all about Scottish football.

Although he has no experience north of the border, former Real Madrid forward Jack Harper could prove to be a bargain buy for the Scottish giants as his contract ends in June.

Currently with La Liga side Malaga, 21-year-old Harper is yet to make a senior appearance and is likely to leave with the January transfer window less than two months away.

Showing huge promise in the UEFA Youth League with Real Madrid, Harper also impressed in Premier League 2 with Brighton and Hove Albion while on loan and on a free, his potential at Ibrox would excite fans.

The two-time Scotland Under-19 international will know all about Scottish Premiership football due to his nationality and fits the bill perfectly, offering physicality, speed and an unwavering eye for goal.

Getting Harper for a knockdown price in January and offloading Herrera would be a good bit of business by Rangers, if they can convince Malaga to sell the Scottish starlet.
