Rangers manager Steven Gerrard wants to sign Karlan Grant a pre-contract agreement in the January transfer window, according to The Scottish Sun, but the Liverpool legend does not need to.
It has been reported that Rangers want to secure the services of the Charlton Athletic forward for next season and thereafter as a potential long-term replacement for Alfredo Morelos.
Rangers are reportedly planning a safety net should Morelos, who is one of the best strikers in the Scottish Premiership, leave in the summer of 2019.
While it is commendable that Rangers manager Gerrard is preparing for the future, he need not rush into signing a 21-year-old forward from a club in League One in England.
True, the youngster is playing well at the moment, but Rangers could do better at the end of the season.

After all, the potential transfer fee from the sale of Morelos will be sizeable, and Rangers will then be able to sign a more established and experienced striker Grant.
Rangers could well end up winning the Scottish Premiership title this season and then book their place in the Champions League or the Europa League for the 2019-20 campaign, meaning that they will have money to invest in the squad.
